A Lyft Driver Was Brutally Attacked and Left For Dead
A 25-year-old Lyft driver from Frisco, Texas has spoken out about the horrifying ordeal he endured when one of his passengers brutally attacked him and stole his car.
Dilaver Berk was giving a ride to 19-year-old Antwain Williams on Monday evening when the suspect allegedly attacked him from behind and slashed his throat. According to Berk’s friend Dustin Tovi, Williams then used a cable or wire to try and choke the driver.
Berk said that he put his hands up to protect himself, and as a result suffered severe injuries to his hands and neck. He underwent surgery and has since been released from the hospital, but remains bedridden with a long recovery ahead of him.
Williams was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and evading arrest. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for allegedly encouraging a child to perform a sex act.
The attack happened near the Legends at Legacy Apartments in Frisco, and a woman nearby who witnessed the incident assisted Berk and called 911.
After stealing Berk’s Toyota Camry, Williams was able to evade police at first, but eventually crashed the car and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended.
Berk’s friend Tovi says that the driver is extremely fortunate to be alive, and that the attack is a devastating blow to him and his family. Despite the severity of his injuries, Berk is reportedly focused on recovering and getting back to work as a Lyft driver.
