One Texas fan, Corbin Cessna, had two chances to take a life-changing kick on ESPN’s “College GameDay” Saturday. The 2017 Texas graduate, who now works as a lawyer, had not paid off his law school debt and was hoping to win $1.2 million to help alleviate some of that debt.
Before taking the kick, Cessna said his strategy was to “keep it easy, keep it smooth, it’s like a nice little 9-iron, you know, don’t over-kick it, that’s it.” However, his first attempt was a soft kick that barely made it halfway to the uprights.
Pat McAfee, co-host of the show, immediately reacted by saying, “This guy sucks” and “This guy is the worst of all-time.” Despite the criticism, the crowd pressured McAfee to give Cessna another chance, and he decided to match Kirk Herbstreit’s $200,000 with his own money, making the new total $800,000.
McAfee even asked special guest picker Timothée Chalamet if he wanted to match, and the Hollywood movie star agreed, bringing the total to $1.2 million. Cessna’s second attempt was much better, but he still missed the kick, barely hooking it to the left.
While Cessna did not win the $1.2 million, his Texas Longhorns are taking on the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game Saturday.
