Dell’s Injury Brings Emotions to the Surface for Texans
A crucial game for the Houston Texans ended in an emotional scene after wide receiver John Metchie III suffered a serious injury, being carted off the field after a big catch. The 25-year-old was stabilized with an air cast and transported to the University of Kansas medical center, where he will spend the night.
Metchie’s teammates, including quarterback Quiet Stroud, who was visibly distraught by the injury. Stroud, a fellow 2023 draft pick, refrained from celebrating the touchdown that potentially gave the Texans a chance to tie the game, instead becoming overcome with emotion.
“that’s my best friend,” Stroud said after the game. “I was going through it.”
Metchie led the Texans in receiving with six catches for 98 yards and a touchdown, a performance that showed his return to form after a leg fracture ended his rookie campaign. “You guys have seen what he means to our entire team,” said linebacker Christian Ryans. “It hurts. It hurts to see him go down like that.”
The Texans have struggled with injuries to their wide receivers all season, with Nico Collins missing several games due to a hamstring injury and Stefon Diggs suffering a season-ending ACL tear. Despite Metchie’s injury, the team still managed to secure their second consecutive AFC South title. However, his injury is a massive blow to the playoff-bound team.
