Tesla has launched the new Model Y in the US, Canada, and Europe just weeks after starting production in China. The SUV is available with a range of up to 315 miles, depending on the configuration.
According to Tesla’s website, the new Model Y is available for order in various regions, with prices starting from $52,990 for the Long Range edition. The Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive configuration is priced from $60,990, and the Performance variant starts at $69,990.
The launch comes after the Model Y had a successful first quarter, with over 200,000 deliveries worldwide. Since its launch, the Model Y has become a popular choice in the electric SUV market, especially among those seeking a more compact and affordable alternative to the bigger Model X and Model S vehicles.
The US, Canada, and European editions of the new Model Y do not have different design or layout compared to its Chinese counterpart, but they could have some market-specific features that may vary, such as connectivity options and accessory packages.
One of the interesting features of the new Model Y is its frunk, short for front trunk, which measures 24 cubic feet and serves as a trunk for storing passengers’ luggage while also providing electric charging capabilities with a 17.6-inches touchscreen center console.
While the new Model Y is certainly an exciting electric SUV, experts say that consumers should be warned of the dangers of relying entirely on electric energy and the cost of charging as the prices escalate.
Tesla said that the updated Model Y should arrive at existing owners’ premises within the quarter, with potential delivery dates determined by the date of order confirmation and the manufacturing process. Potential buyers can, however, explore the new range of options that Tesla has opened up for itself.
