Terminator: Dark Fate’s $261M Disappointment Finds Redemption 5 Years Later on Netflix.

One of the Terminator franchise’s biggest commercial disappointments, Terminator: Dark Fate, has found streaming success on Netflix. The 2019 movie reunited Arnold Schwarzenegger with Linda Hamilton for the first time in the franchise since Terminator 2 in 1991. Although the movie’s reviews were an improvement over the reception to Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys, it did not reach the heights of the two original movies and was a commercial disappointment, grossing only $261 million against a budget of nearly $200 million.

However, the movie has now become a streaming hit, ranking as the eighth most-watched movie of the past week on Netflix with 5.8 million views, and is in the Top 10 in 57 countries across the world, with many countries in Europe performing particularly well.

The success of Terminator: Dark Fate on Netflix is a good sign for the franchise’s future, especially with James Cameron continuing to work on a Terminator 7 script. If this level of interest remains in the franchise, the next installment may perform particularly well at the international and global box office.

The movie’s success is also attributed to the success of Terminator Zero, an anime series that debuted on Netflix in 2024 and has translated to Dark Fate’s viewership.
