Tenable CEO Amit Yoran passes away after battle with cancer.

Amit Yoran, CEO and Chairman of Tenable, Passes Away at 54

Amit Yoran, the CEO and chairman of Tenable, a cybersecurity company, has passed away at the age of 54. Tenable confirmed his death in a Saturday press release, stating that his passing was unexpected. Yoran had been on medical leave since early December as he battled cancer.

Yoran, a well-known figure in the cybersecurity industry, had a long and distinguished career. He previously served as president of RSA Security and as National Cybersecurity Director for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He also founded and led NetWitness, a cybersecurity company, from 2006 to 2011.

Yoran took the helm of Tenable in 2016 and led the company’s successful initial public offering (IPO) in 2018. During his tenure, Tenable became one of the most trusted and beloved brands in the industry, with over half of the Fortune 500 companies as its customers. Yoran attributed Tenable’s success to its focus on the vulnerabilities of businesses’ technology and its shift to a subscription-based model.

Yoran’s passing comes as a shock to many in the industry. He was a respected leader and had a deep understanding of the cybersecurity landscape. His legacy will continue to guide Tenable as the company moves forward, according to Art Coviello, lead independent director and chair of the company’s board.

Tenable’s current CFO Steve Vintz and COO Mark Thurmond have been acting as co-CEOs since Yoran went on medical leave in December. The company’s board of directors will be seeking a permanent successor for the position.
