Teddy Bridgewater is Searching for Another Championship in a Two-Month Span
Detroit Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has won a state title in the fall, leading his high school alma mater, Miami Northwestern High, to the Florida Class 3A state title earlier this month. Now, he’s back with the Detroit Lions as a veteran backup quarterback to help their playoff run.
Bridgewater has been signed to provide experience and a professional presence in the backup role, with starter Jared Goff expected to remain the team’s primary quarterback. The Lions have already clinched a playoff spot and can earn the top seed in the NFC with two more wins, but they want to be prepared in case an injury occurs to Goff.
Bridgewater has a strong connection with Lions head coach Dan Campbell, who previously worked with him in New Orleans. “I’ve been in contact with Teddy for a while, and it was something that was always a potential possibility,” Campbell said. “To be able to add somebody back here that’s got experience, he’s staying in shape, he’s been throwing, just get him worked back in here a little bit. It just brings a level of professionalism, veteran presence, somebody that’s great for our team.”
With the Lions controlling their own destiny to force the NFC playoffs through their own home turf, Bridgewater’s addition provides a boost to the team’s depth and competitive spirit.
