New Orleans Saints tight end Taysom Hill is likely to miss the remainder of the season after injuring his knee in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. According to interim coach Darren Rizzi, “It looks like an ACL tear” and Hill is likely to require season-ending surgery.

Hill’s injury occurred with 1:09 left in the fourth quarter, as the Saints attempted to drive for a tying touchdown. The team has lost several key offensive players this season, including leading wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.

Hill was having a career year, rushing for 138 yards and three touchdowns, as well as catching eight passes and completing an 18-yard pass in the previous game. He was the team’s leading rusher and was tied for the team lead in rushing touchdowns.

“Taysom is a player you don’t see a whole lot in the league,” said tight end Juwan Johnson. “So, having him on your team makes a big difference. It’s not always the best not having him around.”

In addition to Hill’s injury, the Saints will also be without guard Nick Saldiveri, who was injured in the same game. The team already lacks several key players, including starting center Erik McCoy.

The loss of Hill makes it even more difficult for the Saints to climb back in the NFC South race, where they currently trail Atlanta and Tampa Bay by two games. The 34-year-old Hill has been a key contributor for the Saints, and his loss will be deeply felt.
