As the Buffalo Bills host the Denver Broncos in a wild-card playoff game on Sunday, fans from both cities will have the opportunity to indulge in a unique culinary experience at Highmark Stadium. The “Battle Boat” is a 2-foot-long display of spicy waffle fries filled with a combination of Buffalo staple fare and a culinary delight from the opposing team’s location.
The dish, which was recently highlighted by social media content creator Cameron Guzzo, is a take on a previous version called “Stampede Fries” which debuted last season. The latter featured Buffalo chicken and blue cheese on one half and chopped pastrami, coleslaw, and shredded cheese on the other. For the “Bad Blood Waffle Fries,” the dish pitted Kansas City-style barbecue against Buffalo chicken dip as a split topping.
The “Battle Boat” concept was born when a child attendee during a “bring-your-kid-to-work” day at Delaware North’s headquarters suggested the name. The dish is available for $28 and has been offered at Highmark Stadium throughout the 2024 season.
Guzzo, a 26-year-old civil engineer and die-hard Bills fan, was introduced to the “Battle Boat” through an email from the team. He gave the dish a 9 out of 10 in his video review, calling it one of the coolest food items he’s ever come across at a sporting event.
The variety of toppings on the “Battle Boat” changes depending on the opposing team, with recent options including souvlaki chicken and Greek dressing for a Greek-themed game, and meatballs with marinara and mozzarella cheese for a New York Jets game. For the game against the Broncos, the Denver half of the dish is topped with a Denver omelet: scrambled eggs, peppers, onions, and pancetta.
Guzzo’s review of the “Battle Boat” has garnered a significant amount of attention, highlighting the idea that “food transcends everybody.” With no plans for what’s next, Guzzo is excited to continue showcasing the unique culinary experiences offered at various NFL stadiums.
