Superman’s iconic action scene still soars 19 years later.

The Best Superman Movie Action Scene: Brandon Routh’s Plane Rescue

As Superman is set to return to the big screen with a new live-action iteration, it’s time to revisit the Man of Steel’s finest action sequence in a live-action movie. Brandon Routh’s Superman in Superman Returns may not have had the most exciting movie, but his plane rescue scene is undoubtedly the best of its kind.

Inspired by Christopher Reeve’s classic portrayal of Superman, Routh was pitch-perfect as the Man of Steel in 2006’s Superman Returns. The plane rescue scene is a testament to Routh’s ability to capture the essence of Superman’s character. The high-energy action scene has Superman trying to stop a plane that has been boosted by a rocket from falling into the middle of a baseball field.

The CGI is impressive, the score creates a tense atmosphere, and Superman saves the day. What sets this scene apart from other Superman movie action sequences is its focus on saving people’s lives rather than fighting a villain. This highlights Superman’s core essence, with his powers on display in a fast-paced action sequence that centers on saving people’s lives, not killing villains.

The plane rescue scene may not be the most epic or the most epic, but it is pure Superman at its core. Superman Returns’ plane rescue beats all other Superman movie action scenes, and it looks even better now. With James Gunn’s Superman movie on the horizon, featuring a formidable cast of DC heroes and villains, there’s a good chance that it will surpass Superman Returns’ plane rescue scene. However, for now, Routh’s Superman remains the benchmark for Superman’s finest action sequence.
