Suns’ Jusuf Nurkić says he has no connection with coach Mike Budenholzer.

Jusuf Nurkić Reveals Fallout with Head Coach Mike Budenholzer as He Sits Out for Nearly a Month

Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić has not appeared in a game since January 7 and, in a stunning revelation, acknowledged that he no longer has a relationship with head coach Mike Budenholzer. Following Saturday’s victory over Washington, Nurkić broke his silence about the rift with Budenholzer.

When asked about their relationship, Nurkić flatly replied, “We don’t have a relationship.” Noting the friction, Nurkić insisted, “For me, just be a pro and do the best I can. Work and stay ready for whatever might be.” He made clear that there are no lingering resentments and the focus should now be on “something else” – presumably an exit or change in roles with the Suns.

Budenholzer shared a measured perspective, stating, “It’s never easy in this league… I’m sure he’s frustrated. I respect that.” Despite a solid statline this season – averaging 23.7 minutes per contest with 8.6 points and 9.2 rebounds – Nurkić finds himself overshadowed by newer talent, such as rookie Ryan Dunn and veteran center Mason Plumlee.

Last year, Nurkić notched 10.9 points and 11.0 rebounds across 76 games, his current contract keeping him in the starting lineup until next season. A potential distraction emerges as the trade deadline draws closer, the Phoenix Suns currently standing at 23-21 in the eighth position of the Western Conference.

Over the Suns’ last nine games, which yielded seven victories without Nurkić’s contribution on the floor.
