Sunny Hostin’s Husband Drama Ignites ABC Controversy

There’s been a cloudy forecast for “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin as her husband, Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, an orthopedic surgeon, has been accused in a lawsuit of committing insurance fraud. The lawsuit, filed in New York, alleges that Hostin and over 180 other defendants received kickbacks for performing surgeries and fraudulently billing an insurance company that provides coverage for Uber and Lyft drivers, as well as taxi companies.

According to sources, the situation has been discussed internally at ABC News, but no one is sure what to make of it. Hostin’s attorney denies all the allegations, calling the filing a “blanket, scattershot, meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier.”

The controversy has become a “big thing” at ABC News, and a former ABC insider said it’s “pretty hypocritical” given Hostin’s tendency to jump down the throats of Republicans on the show. Another expert predicted that the scandal won’t have much of an impact on ABC News or Hostin’s standing with “The View.”

However, the legal drama could put Hostin in an awkward spot when discussing morals and law on the show. The lawsuit, filed under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), could keep Hostin and his co-defendants in court for years and potentially saddle them with massive payouts.

Hostin has remained mum about her husband’s legal troubles, but that hasn’t stopped her from commenting on his work. She recently discussed the health insurance industry and the struggles her husband faces, saying that “doctors suffer because of big corporations.” The lawsuit alleges that Hostin’s practice, Hostin Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, received hundreds of millions of dollars in fraudulent payments between 2009 and 2024.
