During the latest episode of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Stephen A. Smith, a sports pundit and contributor to ESPN, criticized the Democratic Party for failing to campaign on issues that concerned the American people, and as a result, President Trump won the last presidential election. Smith argued that Trump, despite his flaws and legal issues, was more relatable to voters than the Democratic Party. He claimed that Trump’s campaign focused on issues such as the economy and border security, which resonated with many voters, whereas the Democratic Party focused on fringe issues like the transgender community, which only affected a small percentage of the population.
Smith also criticized the Democratic Party for failing to demonstrate that it could keep its promises, unlike Trump, who at least appears to have kept some of his promises, even if he cannot achieve them due to opposition from other branches of government. He noted that Trump’s ability to make promises and attempt to keep them, even if unsuccessful, was a factor in his success.
Smith’s comments were made during an interview with Representative Ro Khanna, D-Calif., and were echoed by Bill Maher, the host of “Real Time with Bill Maher.” Smith’s views reflect his earlier statements about the last presidential election, in which he argued that the American people were more comfortable with Trump’s style, despite his flaws, than they were with the Democratic Party’s platform.
