Pittsburgh’s Streak of Success Continues to Grow
Pittsburgh’s streak of consistent success dates back to the final seasons of Bill Cowher’s Hall of Fame coaching career, with Mike Tomlin taking over in 2007. The current record of 18 consecutive seasons without a losing campaign, a record that has grown by four seasons from the beginning of his tenure, making it the longest such streak among any coach to start their career.
The Steelers are set to pass Hall of Famer Tom Landry’s 22-game streak with the 1965-1985 Dallas Cowboys next year, with a 22nd non-losing season. Tomlin is also closing in on Landry and Bill Belichick for the most consecutive non-losing seasons overall, with Belichick tallying 19 straight seasons with the New England Patriots, which trails Landry’s 21.
Despite their consistent achievement, the 2024 lineup is outperforming recent teams. In the past three seasons, the Steelers have only clinched a non-losing campaign in weeks 17, 16, and 18, respectively. However, this year, they are off to a 9-3 start, leading the AFC North, in contention for the AFC’s top seed, and maintaining their historic mark, making them a strong force to be reckoned with.
