Steelers HC Mike Tomlin prefers balanced offense over shootouts.

Pittsburgh Steelers Win Despite Allowing a Season-High 38 Points

The Pittsburgh Steelers won a game despite allowing a season-high 38 points, the most they have given up since a 38-3 loss in Week 5, 2022. It was the second time in franchise history that the Steelers have won a game in which they allowed 38 or more points. The team’s normally stingy defense, which had allowed only 16.9 points per game in the first 12 weeks, was unable to contain quarterback Joe Burrow and his talented receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, who have also troubled many other defenses this season.

Despite the defensive struggles, the Steelers’ offense responded well to a pick-six on the opening drive, scoring touchdowns on their next three drives and not punting until the fourth quarter. Coach Mike Tomlin praised the offense’s ability to respond to turnovers and scoring drives by the opposing team, saying, “I just liked the offense’s quick response to that in terms of taking the ball and going back down the field. I thought the offense, in several circumstances, displayed the type of complimentary response that you need from an offense.”

Next, the Steelers will face the Browns and quarterback Jameis Winston, who had a record-breaking game last week, throwing for 497 yards and four touchdowns. The Steelers will look to slow him down in their rematch with the Browns, who won the previous encounter 24-19 in a blizzard.
