Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Spotted Using Walker After Hip Replacement Surgery
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was spotted using a walker as she attended a joint session of Congress to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election. The 84-year-old California Democrat was among members taking part in the ceremony. She was seen sporting a green blazer and smiling as she made her way through the room, greeting senators and shaking hands.
This was her second appearance on the House floor since returning to Washington last week for the new 119th Congress. Her recovery comes after she fell during a bipartisan congressional trip to Europe last month and underwent hip replacement surgery in Germany.
Pelosi was spotted wearing flats, a departure from her usual stilettos, as she made her way through the chamber. She was aided by two aides who held her arms as she walked.
The fall occurred on a marble staircase in Luxembourg, and Pelosi was rushed to the hospital. Her office later confirmed that she underwent successful hip replacement surgery.
Pelosi’s attendance at the joint session came as lawmakers were certifying the election for President-elect Donald Trump. She also took the opportunity to comment on the four-year anniversary of the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, praising the courage of law enforcement officers who protected the building and the Constitution.
In a statement, Pelosi said, “We must never forget the extraordinary courage of law enforcement officers on January 6th who stood in the breach and stared down the insurrectionists to protect the Capitol, the Congress, and the Constitution. We are forever grateful to these heroes whose valor ensured that democracy survived on that dark day — and we continue to pray for the fallen, the afflicted, and their families.”
