SPACEX Seeks Approval to Turn TX Starbase Site Into New City
Elon Musk’s SpaceX is seeking approval from the Texas government to turn its current testing and development site in Starbase, Texas into a new city. The plan, if approved, would see the site being transformed from a solely private testing facility into a fully-fledged city with its own government, infrastructure and regulations.
According to documents filed with the State of Texas, SpaceX has petitioned for the creation of a Municipal Management District (MMD), which would grant it the power to govern and manage the Starbase site independently. This would enable the company to have greater control over the development and growth of the area, including the design and construction of infrastructure, setting of zoning regulations, and collection of taxes.
The proposal also includes plans for the construction of new residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, as well as the establishment of a new school district, public transportation system, and healthcare services. SpaceX has stated that the new city would be designed with sustainability and innovation in mind, incorporating features such as green spaces, renewable energy sources, and advanced transportation systems.
If approved, the new city is expected to be officially recognized as the 28th city in Texas, and would be aptly named Starbase City. The move is seen as a major coup for the company, as it would provide greater control over the development of its ambitious plans for the site, as well as creating a new hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
