Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has reportedly received a $6 million name, image, and likeness (NIL) offer to leave the university, but a former Longhorn teammate, Johntay Cook, thinks it would be a mistake for Ewers to stay in college football. Ewers, who decided to return to school for the 2024 season, has seen his draft stock decline after a subpar season. Cook, who played with Ewers for two seasons before transferring to Washington, tweeted that Texas would be “wasting their money” if Ewers stayed.
Ewers’ decision to return to school for the 2024 season was met with surprise, given his initial plan to turn pro. However, he has remained committed to his college career and is set to face Arizona State in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff on Wednesday.
As for his teammates, redshirt freshman Arch Manning has shot down rumors of him entering the transfer portal, saying he has no plans to do so. There has been speculation about Ewers potentially transferring to Notre Dame, but the team’s head coach, Marcus Freeman, has denied any plans to bring in a quarterback through the transfer portal.
Ewers initially committed to Texas in 2020, only to decommit and join Ohio State, where he played for a single season before transferring back to Texas for the 2022 season.
