Warning: This article contains spoilers for Kraven the Hunter.
It’s unfortunate that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe’s plans for a Sinister Six movie fell apart, as it held much promise. The idea of a team-up film featuring the villains from the Spider-Man comics had been in development since before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014. However, The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s lackluster performance led to the project being put on hold.
In 2022, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter’s poor reviews and box office results have put the entire Sony Spider-Man Universe on hold. Despite attempts to revive the Sinister Six, it seems that the franchise is no longer a priority.
Kraven the Hunter did, however, provide a glimpse into the team lineup, with the introduction of characters like Rhino and Chameleon. These villains, like Morbius and Vulture, have an animal theme that could have led to a unique and intriguing take on the Sinister Six. The team could have consisted of characters like the Lizard, Vermin, Man-Wolf, and Sauron.
The slow development of the Sinister Six movie has been problematic, as it’s taken the franchise too long to properly lay the groundwork. The poor reception of Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter could have been avoided if the franchise had focused on more well-known Marvel characters and villains earlier on.
Kraven the Hunter has also set up a potential enemy for the Sinister Six team. As the anti-hero Kraven the Hunter, he might have served as an enemy for the team, which could have led to interesting conflicts and storylines. This would have been a more fitting take on the Kraven character, as seen in the comic book series Kraven’s Last Hunt, where he hunts increasingly dangerous targets.
Unfortunately, it seems that the Sinister Six movie is no longer in development. Instead, Sony’s focus is shifting to other projects, leaving the potential for a Sinister Six movie on hold.
