Sony’s future in the Spider-Verse: “The Next Spider-Man” film and more popular sub-franchises in the works.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe appears to be coming to an end with the release of Kraven the Hunter. The franchise, which started with Venom in 2018, has seen a decline in popularity with the release of Morbius and Madame Web. According to a report from The Wrap, Sony has no plans to develop new Spider-Man movie spinoffs after Kraven the Hunter.

Instead, the studio is shifting its focus to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4, the animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and Nicolas Cage’s live-action Spider-Noir series. A top talent agent reportedly said that Sony has “developed what they want to develop for now” with the SSU, while a Sony insider commented on the franchise’s lack of quality control, stating, “The movies just aren’t good.”

The report suggests that Sony has listened to fan feedback and is moving on from the failed attempt to create a sprawling comic book universe. Instead, the studio is focusing on Spider-Man and his variants, leaving villains and smaller characters behind.

The news has been met with excitement from fans, who are looking forward to the new Spider-Man projects. The animated Spider-Verse franchise has shown that there is interest in other versions of Spider-Man, and the live-action Spider-Noir series has the potential to be a unique and exciting take on the character.

Overall, it seems that Sony is moving on from the Spider-Man Universe and focusing on more promising projects. While it’s sad to see the franchise come to an end, fans are looking forward to what’s next for Spider-Man.
