President-Elect Trump Announces $100 Billion Investment in US, 100,000 New Jobs
President-elect Donald Trump and Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son announced a $100 billion investment in America, aiming to generate 100,000 new jobs. Trump called the investment “a monumental demonstration of confidence in America’s future.” The deal was announced at Mar-a-Lago, where Trump met with Son and praised his successful investment and technology company.
Softbank will invest the $100 billion in America, creating a minimum of 100,000 new jobs. Son expressed his excitement about the investment, stating that his confidence in the US economy has increased significantly since Trump’s election victory.
Karoline Leavitt, the incoming White House press secretary, hailed the investment as “a huge win for Trump” and “another example of the Trump effect.” She added that the investment is a fulfillment of Trump’s campaign promise to make the US a manufacturing superpower.
The investment is expected to be completed before Trump leaves office in 2029. Softbank currently has around $30 billion in cash reserves, although it is unclear how the funding commitment will be met.
Softbank has previously launched the SoftBank Vision Fund, a $100 billion venture capital fund that has invested in companies such as WeWork and Katerra. Son has predicted that computers will possess human-level cognitive abilities within the next two to three years, and has stated that a “gold rush of intelligence has arrived” and that the company that moves fastest will win.
