Snoop Dogg to Star in and Co-Produce Luc Besson’s New Sci-Fi Movie, “The Last Man”
Rap legend Snoop Dogg will star in and co-produce Luc Besson’s upcoming original sci-fi movie, “The Last Man”. While the post-apocalyptic plot is still under wraps, insiders believe it may be inspired by “Planet of the Apes” and possibly connected to Snoop’s 2009 song “Last Man Standing”.
The project is written by Luc Besson, known for his work on sci-fi classics like “The Fifth Element” and “Lucy”, which grossed over $469 million worldwide in 2014. Besson’s next film is expected to blend science fiction, comedy, and action, similar to “The Fifth Element”.
Snoop Dogg and Besson previously collaborated on the 2006 animated feature “Arthur and the Minimoys”, in which Dogg voiced one of the main characters. The new movie is being produced by Virginie Besson-Silla and Luc Besson for EuropaCorp, with Snoop and Sara Ramaker’s Death Row Pictures. Filming is set to begin in 2025.
“I’ve been a big fan of Snoop Dogg’s music ever since ‘Who Am I’,” said Besson. “We first met 20 years ago, and we’ve always wanted to work together again. We just needed the right project that would excite us both – and this is it, with Snoop in the lead role. I can’t wait to get started!”
Snoop Dogg also expressed his admiration for Besson, stating, “Ever since I’ve seen The Professional, I’ve always wanted [Luc] to direct a whole movie for me. Now we finally get the opportunity for him to write and direct me in a Luc Besson movie.”
In other news, Snoop Dogg recently spent time in Paris as a torchbearer and special correspondent for NBC Olympics, and performed during the handover segment of the closing ceremony for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Besson’s most recent project, “Dogman”, premiered at the Venice Film Festival and featured a reteaming with actor Caleb Landry Jones, who will also appear in the upcoming “Dracula” adaptation alongside Christoph Waltz.
