Ski lift fails at Spanish resort, leaving dozens injured.

[Dozens Injured as Ski Lift Collapses in Spain

Dozens of people were injured after a ski lift collapsed at the Astun ski resort in the Pyrenees mountains, emergency officials told CNN. The incident occurred at around 12:00 p.m. local time, with 30 people injured, including 10 who were transferred to hospital.

The ski lift, which is 15 meters high, collapsed after one of its pulleys became loose, causing the chairs to destabilize and turn some of them upside down. Video from the scene showed dozens of people standing in the snow, stuck after the ski lift broke.

“It’s like a cable has come off, the chairs have bounced and people have been thrown off,” a witness told Spanish public broadcaster RTVE.

By 3 p.m. local time, all of those left stranded by the collapse were evacuated. Spain’s President Pedro Sanchez said he was “shocked” by the news and had spoken to Aragon’s president to offer the Spanish government’s support. “All of our affection goes to the injured and their families,” Sanchez said.
