Commanders Acquire Pro Bowl Corner Marcell Lattimore at Trade Deadline
The Washington Commanders made a key move at the trade deadline by acquiring Pro Bowl cornerback Marcell Lattimore, who was dealing with a hamstring injury. Lattimore missed his first three games with Washington but made his debut on Sunday.
In his first game, Lattimore played on the right side of the defensive formation, forcing the ball to the other side of the field. His insertion pushed penalty-prone Benjamin St-Juste to the bench, with St-Juste playing just three defensive snaps and committing one penalty.
With Lattimore in the lineup, the Commanders kept Noah Igbinoghene in the slot and rookie Mike Sainristil at the opposite corner. Sainristil was targeted seven times, allowing two catches for 20 yards with an interception.
Coach Ron Quinn praised Lattimore’s performance, saying there were no communication breakdowns in his first game. “I thought it was strong, especially with him,” Quinn said. “I was watching for that, I wanted to hear that and see that from him. And he also did a good job of, there’s some certain formations that you have to get down, others that you want to be off to go. So, I was pleased with the communication for his first time.”
The Commanders’ next test will come in Week 16 against the division-leading Philadelphia Eagles, which will provide a bigger challenge for how much Lattimore transforms the team’s defense.
