Shedeur Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes’ star quarterback, has announced that he will not participate in the East-West Shrine Bowl. Despite his strong 2022 season, where he threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, Sanders will forego practice and the game in support of the top teams selecting in the 2025 NFL Draft, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants, who have requested he does so.

Each of these teams have met with Sanders, with him stating that their conversations have been positive, showcasing a side that is contrary to what is perceived in the media. The potential number one overall pick explained his decision to decline the invite, stating it aligns with the purpose and reason he initially met with these teams, so they could “know” him and understand his abilities.

With two seasons of playing under the tutelage of his father, Deion Sanders, the former defensive back turned coaching icon, the younger Sanders will be under additional scrutiny when his name is inevitably called early in the draft. His season performances have set a high standard, as he broke numerous records within the Big 12 Conference.

As competition ensues between himself and Miami’s Cam Ward to become the first quarterback drafted in 2025, interest has only increased with several expert mock drafts positioning the talented passer into the hands of teams vying for an edge in next season’s game.
