Serie A Match Abandoned After Fiorentina Player Collapses on Field
A Serie A match between ACF Fiorentina and Inter Milan was abandoned on Sunday after Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove collapsed on the field at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, Italy. Bove, 22, fell to the ground in the 16th minute after a stoppage in play and was stretchered off the field and taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
The Italian league match was abandoned with the score 0-0, and Bove was later announced to be under sedation and hospitalized in intensive care after losing consciousness. Initial tests have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system, and he will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hours.
Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso issued a statement, saying “Forza Edoardo, we’re with you. You’re a strong boy with a great character. We’re reaching out to the boy’s family during these moments.” This is the second Serie A match to be abandoned this year, following AS Roma’s Evan Ndicka experiencing a “medical emergency” in April.
Fiorentina currently stands in fourth place in the Serie A table, having won eight matches this season. The match will be resumed at a later date.
