Serena Williams Responds to Skin-Bleaching Allegations

Tennis Legend Serena Williams Fires Back at Accusations of Skin Bleaching

Tennis legend Serena Williams has fired back at accusations that she has been bleaching her skin, saying the claims are “ridiculous” and “haters” trying to come up with a narrative about her.

The reported incident started when Williams shared a video of herself at a school event with her husband and two children, according to People magazine. Some fans and followers began spreading rumors that she had altered her skin tone, leading Williams to take to Instagram Live to address the allegations.

“I’m a dark, Black woman, and I love who I am, and I love how I look,” she said. “And then I put just that neutral color, that is actually my skin color, and no, for you haters out there, I do not bleach my skin. There is a thing called sunlight, and in that sunlight, you get different colors.”

Williams also clarified that she was wearing “stage makeup” when filming the video. She emphasized that she doesn’t judge those who choose to bleach their skin, but she personally doesn’t do it.

The 43-year-old athlete has faced some serious health issues in recent years, including a major cyst removal surgery, during which a drain was needed to remove fluid and blood from the affected area. Despite these challenges, Williams has continued to be a vocal advocate for herself and others in the sports world.
