Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s Home Breached by Suspects; Secret Service Agent Fires Shots
A U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to protect Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen opened fire near her Washington, D.C. home early Tuesday morning after confronting several people trying to break into cars on her street. The agent, who was not harmed, was part of Yellen’s protective detail at the time of the incident.
According to the Secret Service, the agent observed a sedan with multiple occupants attempting to open car doors along the street at approximately 1:30 a.m. ET. As the sedan approached the agent, a confrontation occurred, and the agent discharged their service weapon. The suspects fled the scene in their vehicle, and a lookout was issued to local law enforcement.
Yellen was not under threat during the incident and was not harmed. The shooting will be investigated by the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington and the Washington Metropolitan Police Department. The Metropolitan PD declined to comment on the incident.
This incident comes nearly 13 months after a Secret Service agent assigned to protect President Joe Biden’s granddaughter, Naomi Biden Neal, fired shots at several people breaking into an unoccupied government vehicle outside her home in Washington, D.C.
