Sean “Diddy” Combs, facing sex trafficking charges and a potential life sentence, is demanding better access to a laptop in his prison cell, claims his lawyers.
According to a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs’ defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo wrote that the government provided a laptop for Combs to review discovery, take notes, and assist in his defense, but he has not been given the laptop since November 2024 despite numerous inquiries.
Agnifilo, who has successfully represented other high-profile clients, added that Combs is being treated unfairly and is not being allowed to use the laptop in the same way as other inmates on his unit, with restrictions that limit his ability to work with his lawyers.
The defense is requesting that the court order MDC officials to allow Combs to use the laptop where and when he wants, as well as stop providing prosecutors with visitation forms of attorney meetings with their client in the facility, as they could be “potentially privileged.”
The move comes as Combs faces a trial set to start May 5, with charges including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He is also facing dozens of civil suits related to his past, including allegations of drug-fueled and videotaped “freak offs.”
The case has taken a fresh turn with the possible nomination of Kash Patel, a controversial figure who has suggested he may release the names of celebrities who attended Combs’ parties, and the recent replacement of US Attorney Damian Williams with Jay Clayton, who was the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission under Trump.
The government has indicated that it intends to file a response to the latest letter from Combs’ defense team, which has also accused them of using Combs’ detention to spy on him and invade his confidential communications with his counsel.
