Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Injured, Leaves Game with Right Knee Issue
Seattle Seahawks quarterback P.J. Smith left the game after being injured with a right knee issue during the team’s loss on Sunday. He was 15-for-19 with 149 yards and an interception at the time of the injury.
Initially, Smith wanted to return to the game, but it was determined that he could not continue. He returned to the sideline with a wrap on his right knee, which raised concerns about his long-term availability.
The loss dropped the Seahawks to 8-6 on the season and into a tie for first place in the NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams. Smith’s health will be crucial to the team’s playoff chances, which decreased to 37% after Sunday’s game.
If Smith is unable to play, the team will rely on quarterback Drew Howell, who struggled in relief on Sunday. The schedule does not favor the Seahawks, with a tough two-game stretch ahead, including a game against playoff-bound Minnesota Vikings and a potential must-win matchup against the Rams in the regular-season finale.
“We’ve got to get the tests done,” coach Macdonald said, indicating that a timeline for Smith’s return is uncertain. “I know we’ll do everything humanely possible to go play, but just don’t know right now.”
