New Seahawks OC Search Begins
Former University of Washington offensive coordinator, Shane Grubb, spent the 2022-23 season in the same role under coach Kalen DeBoer, leading the Huskies to the College Football Playoff national title game. Despite Grubb’s prolific offense, which featured star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and a trio of NFL receivers, his tenure with the Seahawks was marked by inconsistencies.
The team’s offense struggled to form a cohesive unit, with issues in the middle of the offensive line affecting their game. Head coach Pete Macdonald, who has experience working with the Harbaugh brothers, is likely to prioritize an offensive coordinator who will prioritize a more pronounced running game in the upcoming season.
Despite his opportunities, quarterback Drew Smith attempted 587 passes, completing 407 and amassing 4,320 yards, good for third in the league. However, his 21 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions leave much to be desired. Grubb’s difficulty in sticking to a running game, despite his early October admissions, only added to the team’s struggles.
As the Seahawks prepare for the 2025 season, Macdonald will likely be on the hunt for an offensive coordinator who will commit to a more balanced approach, with a stronger emphasis on the ground game. The search is on to find the right fit to lead the team to success.
