Wes Craven’s Scream Franchise Continues with the Addition of Jasmine Savoy Brown
The upcoming movie Scream 7 has announced the addition of returning franchise star Jasmine Savoy Brown to the cast. Brown played the character Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream 5 and 6, and will be reuniting with her fellow franchise alumni, including Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and Mason Gooding.
Scream 7 will take place in Woodsboro, where the first three movies of the franchise also took place, which could suggest a return to the series’ roots. This reunites the legacy characters with the newer, younger characters and represents a passing of the torch. Mindy has become an important part of the franchise, using her pop culture knowledge and deductive reasoning to help the survivors survive the Ghostface murders.
Newcomers to the franchise, including Mckenna Grace, Isabel May, Celest O’Connor, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, and Joel McHale, have also been announced as part of the cast. It is expected that the new movie will blend classic characters, including Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers, with new faces.
Our Take On Scream 7 & The Franchise’s Future
Scream 7 has the potential to be Brown’s swan song, but it’s clear that the franchise will continue to evolve. With Barrera not returning for the new movie, Mindy is positioned as a crucial character, potentially even becoming the killer herself.
The identity of Ghostface and the franchise’s direction for Scream 7 remain undisclosed. However, fans can expect to see the series return to Woodsboro, potentially providing a sense of familiarity and comfort for viewers. The outcome of Scream 7 could also influence the future of the franchise.
Released in February 2026, Scream 7 will see the latest installment in the horror franchise, with Kevin Williamson, Guy Busick, and James Vanderbilt penning the screenplay and Cathy Konrad, Gary Barber, and more producing the film. Paramount Pictures will be releasing the movie worldwide.
