Scottie Scheffler’s Epic Par Save at Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Scottie Scheffler found himself in a precarious position after his opening tee shot on the 18th hole in the second round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Friday. His shot landed in the beach, and he had to decide whether to take a penalty drop 40 yards forward from the end of the tee box, walk 300 yards, or take a chance to find his ball.
Scheffler chose to walk to the beach to look for his ball, and luckily, he was able to find it. He then had to hit off the beach back onto the course and get it over the cliff. He was just hoping to find some grass, and he was able to do so, leaving him about 180 yards out.
Scheffler was in between clubs and had to chip a 6-iron in there from 180 yards out, with the wind blowing off the left. He was glad to get the shot on the green and then two-putted from 40 feet to complete the par save.
The par completed a 2-under 70 round on the day, and Scheffler was tied for 20th after the second round, seven-under par. Sepp Straka led after two rounds at -14.
Scheffler’s injury required minor surgery, but he is now back in action after one of the most dominant seasons in PGA Tour history. He won seven PGA Tour titles, including The Masters for a second time, and represented the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, winning a gold medal.
Scheffler is 2-under through four holes to begin the third round, leaving him 9-under par as of the time of writing. The third round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am continues on Saturday.
