Scott Peterson Back in Court to Fight Murder Conviction
Scott Peterson, convicted and sentenced to death for the 2002 murder of his pregnant wife Laci and their unborn son, is seeking a new trial and a chance at freedom. His legal team is pushing for new evidence to be considered, claiming it may help exonerate him.
Peterson’s conviction was based on a number of coincidences, including his sudden decision to bleach his hair and the discovery of his brother’s passport in an effort to flee to Mexico. However, his attorneys argue that there were reports and recordings that were not considered during the investigation, including mention of a nearby burglary that may have happened while Laci was still alive.
The new evidence, which includes police reports, audio recordings, and video recordings, is being sought by Peterson’s legal team, including Mark Geragos, who says he still believes his former client is innocent. The Innocence Project, a non-profit organization that takes on wrongful conviction cases, has also taken up Peterson’s case.
The case against Peterson was heavily influenced by his mistress, Amber Frey, who recorded phone calls with him and provided information to the police. The recordings helped paint Peterson as a compulsive liar and a cheater.
The new Fox Nation special, “Scott Peterson: The Appeal of a Convicted Killer,” explores the new evidence, eyewitness accounts, and Peterson’s years-long quest for freedom. Hosted by Judge Jeanine Pirro, the special delves into the case and the possibility of new evidence setting Peterson free.
Peterson’s case is ongoing, with a recent court win giving him a chance to bring in new evidence. The possibility of new evidence being considered could ultimately lead to his release from prison.
