Green and white confetti filled Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sunday night as the Eagles secured their ticket to Super Bowl LIX. For some Eagles players, this is their first chance at the Vince Lombardi Trophy, and superstar running back Saquon Barkley is one of them. Barkley signed with the Eagles in free agency, promising to get to the Super Bowl, and now that it’s happened, his next goal is to beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
Barkley did his part in helping the Eagles advance to the Super Bowl, scoring three touchdowns and rushing over 100 yards. He is on the cusp of breaking the NFL record for most rushing yards in a season, including the playoffs, currently held by Hall of Famer Terrell Davis. Barkley has 2,447 yards after his 118 yards on Sunday, just 29 yards shy of Davis’ record.
Barkley’s individual history is impressive, but he’s focused on team success. “I’ve always known who I am,” he said. “I’ve always known the type of player I’ve become. Sometimes it takes longer than others. I didn’t envision it taking seven years. I didn’t even envision it being in Philly. But no time is better than God’s time.” If the Eagles are to take down the Chiefs, Barkley’s performance will be critical.
