In a Sizzling 2024 Campaign, Barkley Becomes Second 2,000-Yard Back to Make Debut with New Team
Saquon Barkley has capped off an outstanding 2024 campaign by becoming the first 2,000-yard runner to achieve the milestone with his second NFL team. Barkley, who has now recorded 11 100-yard games, is well-positioned to win his first NFL rushing title.
Barkley credited his offensive line for their efforts, saying, “At the end of the day, my name would be the one that goes across with 2,000, but like I said, can’t do it without those guys.” He noted that their hard work made him look good, and he is committed to the team’s goals.
Acquired this offseason, Barkley has turned in one of the greatest seasons of all time for a debuting free-agent acquisition. He joins a select group of 2,000-yard rushers, with each of the previous eight accomplishing the feat with the team they started their careers with.
With his impressive achievement, Barkley has more yards in front of him, and he’ll look to chase down the record set by Eric Dickerson, which is now within reach. The question remains whether he’ll suit up to chase down the record in Week 18, or if the coaching staff will rest him against the New York Giants.
Barkley expressed he would be okay with whatever decision is made, prioritizing team goals over personal records. “I’m not overtly trying to get it,” he said. “I’m not scared of it. But we’ve got bigger things we’re focused on. Whether we play next week or rest, I’m fine with that. I didn’t sign here just to break a record. I want to do something special with the team.”
