East Brother Light Station Seeks Innkeeper Couple for Unique Job Opportunity
The East Brother Light Station, located on a small island off Point Molate in Richmond, California, is looking for a couple to take on the role of innkeepers. The property features a historic lighthouse built in 1874, a five-room inn, and a three-bedroom cottage for the innkeepers.
The ideal candidates will manage the inn, while volunteers assist with maintaining the lighthouse and grounds. To be considered, at least one applicant must hold a Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential boat operator’s license to transport guests to and from the island. Additionally, candidates should have experience in hospitality, high-quality culinary skills, and provide maid services for inn guests.
The inn is open four days a week and is available for day rentals and special occasions. The island has limited amenities, including no wired phone, internet, or water pressure. Smoking is not allowed, and the innkeepers will be required to complete two weeks of training.
In return for their hard work, the innkeepers will be paid by sharing the revenue from the inn with the East Brother Light Station nonprofit. They will also receive a health plan and living quarters. In the last fiscal year, the total revenue was $381,000, with the innkeeper’s salary totaling around $139,000.
The East Brother Light Station is looking for the new innkeepers to start in April 2025. The application will remain open until the nonprofit finds the right candidates. The innkeepers will need to be able to work well with the public and the nonprofit, and have a strong desire to take on this unique opportunity.
Most previous innkeepers have come from outside of California, and the nonprofit is open to candidates from all backgrounds. If you’re looking for a challenging but rewarding job, the East Brother Light Station may be the perfect fit for you.
