Chicago Bears President Kevin Warren announced that Ryan Poles will remain the team’s general manager and will lead the search for a new head coach to replace the fired Matt Eberflus. Warren stated that Poles will have the “final say” if the two have differing opinions on the matter. The decision came after a six-game losing streak, which led the team to fire Eberflus and replace him with offensive coordinator Thomas Brown on an interim basis.

Warren and Poles emphasized that their decision is driven by what is best for the team, citing the importance of making wise choices in critical situations on the field. Poles attributed the team’s recent struggles to a lack of execution in end-of-game situations, stating that many of the games have come down to critical moments where the Bears were unable to overcome the hump.

The decision to fire Eberflus was sparked by a 23-20 loss to the Detroit Lions, in which the Bears failed to call a timeout after a sack with seconds remaining, resulting in an incomplete pass as time expired. Warren acknowledged that the team could have done the decision better, noting that the decision was made after Eberflus’ post-game press conference and before he was formally informed of the change.
