San Francisco 49ers Rookie Ricky Pearsall Shines in Monday Night Game
Ricky Pearsall, a rookie wide receiver, had a breakout game on Monday night, earning 141 yards and a touchdown on eight catches. This marked the most receiving yards by a 49ers rookie since Jerry Rice in 1985.
Pearsall nearly doubled his career receiving yards in one night, entering the game with 17 catches for 190 yards and a TD in nine games this season. The rookie’s performance was impressive, as he consistently beat Lions cornerbacks off the line, made acrobatic catches, and displayed nice sideline footwork.
Despite the team’s 10th loss of the season, Pearsall’s performance provided a silver lining. “It felt good to go out there and make some plays, but obviously as a competitor, I want to go out there and come out with a win, so it wasn’t as much fun as I thought it was going to be,” Pearsall said.
Tight end George Kittle praised Pearsall’s game, saying it will raise his confidence significantly. “Those are the games I’ve always expected him to have just watching him practice and in OTAs,” Kittle said. “For him to go out there and do that and stack a bunch of catches and run efficiently and run downhill and do what we needed him to do, that’ll raise his confidence a bunch.”
Coach Kyle Shanahan was also impressed with Pearsall’s performance. “When the ball came his way he did a good job and had some good catches and had some big plays,” Shanahan said.
Pearsall’s breakout game is a hopeful sign for the 49ers, who can build around his talent along with other young players like Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and Jauan Jennings. With Pearsall showing promise, the team’s receiving corps could become a strength in the future.
