Beijing-based robot vacuum maker Roborock has unveiled a new model, the Saros Z70, featuring an artificial intelligence-powered folding arm for removing obstacles such as socks and small objects. The new model is set to be released in major global markets in the first half of the year, but pricing has not been announced.
According to Roborock President Quan Gang, the company believes that robot vacuum cleaners will become as essential as washing machines, driven by the advent of artificial intelligence. Quan notes that the integration of AI could boost the adoption of robot vacuum cleaners, which currently have a penetration rate of less than 10% in developed countries and single digits in developing countries.
The Saros Z70 uses AI to detect and remove obstructions weighing less than 300 grams, such as socks, small towels, and sandals. It is the latest example of Roborock’s commitment to innovation, following the launch of its S8 MaxV Ultra model, which was named the best robot vacuum by The Verge, and the Qrevo S, which was selected by Wired as the best robot vacuum.
Roborock has also made significant investments in research and development, with 9.1% of its operating revenue in the first three quarters of 2024 going towards R&D. The company is aiming to expand its research team to around 300 people, but acknowledges it has been challenging to find qualified talent.
In addition to its robot vacuum cleaners, Roborock has also announced updates to its washing machines, which can dry clothes in the same unit. Overall, the company is positioning itself for further growth and innovation, with a focus on leveraging AI to drive its products forward.
