Rob Gronkowski: From Super Bowl Champion to Financial Winner
Rob Gronkowski, the 4-time Super Bowl champion, has a surprising story of financial success that has little to do with his gridiron exploits. In a recent interview with Fortune, Gronkowski shared the tale of how he made hundreds of thousands of dollars from a fortunate investment.
In 2014, the then 25-year-old received some unsolicited investment advice from his contractor, who was building his home in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The contractor urged Gronkowski to invest in Apple, and the young athlete decided to take the plunge. Despite having no experience with stocks, Gronkowski ponied up $69,000 and instructed his financial advisor to make the purchase.
Gronkowski would later forget about his investment, only to rediscover it two and a half years later. By then, his initial investment had grown to be worth a staggering $250,000. He chose to cash out his original investment and left the rest to grow, which now totals over $600,000.
This lucrative investment was the result of a deal that has become a whopping 1,000% more valuable since 2014. However, Gronkowski’s financial success story goes beyond this windfall. The Super Bowl champion has long been frugal with his NFL paychecks, preferring to live off his endorsement income and saving for the day his playing days would come to an end.
“I whole point of saving throughout my NFL career was to be set for after football because you don’t know how long football will last,” he has said. This financial discipline has allowed him to enjoy his post-football life without worrying about making ends meet. “It feels good to be in [this] position,” he says. “It feels good just to go out there and try to find things that I would just love to do.”
