Rex Ryan to interview for New York Jets head coaching position.

Rex Ryan Expected to Interview for New York Jets’ Head Coaching Position

Rex Ryan, a former NFL head coach, is expected to interview for the New York Jets’ head coaching position, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Ryan, 62, spent six years as the Jets’ head coach from 2009-2014, leading the team to two winning seasons and two AFC Championship Game appearances. He left the Jets with a 46-50 regular-season record and a 4-2 playoff record.

Ryan is the second former head coach reported to be in line for an interview with the Jets, joining Ron Rivera. As a current on-air analyst, Ryan is exempt from the NFL’s rule prohibiting current assistants from interviewing until the end of the regular season.

Ryan has previously interviewed for other NFL positions, including the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator job and the Broncos’ defensive coordinator job. He currently works as an analyst on ESPN.

The Jets’ interest in Ryan is not surprising, given that former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum, who hired Ryan as Jets coach in 2009, is part of the group advising the club in their efforts to hire a new general manager and coach.
