RETIRING TEXAS CONGRESSWOMAN KAY GRANGER EXPERIENCING “DEMENTIA ISSUES,” LIVING IN INDEPENDENT LIVING FACILITY
Rep. Kay Granger, the retiring Texas congresswoman and former chair of the House Appropriations Committee, has been experiencing “dementia issues” in recent months, according to her son Brandon Granger. He told the Dallas Morning News that his mother is living in an independent living facility in Fort Worth, Texas, but not in a memory care facility as some media outlets have reported.
Granger’s son stated that his mother is living at Tradition Senior Living, and that she is not in a memory care facility. Rep. Granger’s office and son have both denied claims that she is in memory care.
In a statement, Granger thanked her family and constituents for their support, stating that her health challenges have progressed since September, making frequent travel to Washington difficult and unpredictable. She has not voted in the House since July 24, and has announced she will not seek re-election.
Granger, the first Republican woman to represent Texas in the House, has represented the 12th Congressional District, which includes Fort Worth, since 1997. She will be succeeded by Republican Craig Goldman, a member of the Texas House.
