Taylor Lorenz Continues to Spark Controversy with Reaction to Murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO

Former Washington Post journalist Taylor Lorenz has taken to social media and made a viral TV appearance, appearing to show support for the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Lorenz shared a clip on her Instagram page showcasing a satirical TikTok video romanticizing the shooting, alongside the location where it took place. The clip includes shots of the hotel and nearby Central Park, seemingly making light of the gruesome murder.

In addition, Lorenz shared various ironical social media posts referencing the attractiveness and influencer appeal of murder suspect Luigi Mangione. Police apprehended Mangione in Pennsylvania and charged him with killing Thompson, finding several items on his person, including fake IDs, a gun, and a manifesto railing against the health insurance industry.

Lorenz has also published a Substack article praising Mangione’s actions, stating that “every person I spoke to said they’ve completely lost faith in the two party system and the media.” She wrote that people believe Mangione is a symbol of defiance against corporate greed and is “willing to do something about” the health insurance industry. Journalist Piers Morgan called out Lorenz for her apparent sympathy with Mangione, with Lorenz admitting to feeling “joy” over Thompson’s death.

However, she took back her statement, suggesting it was the wrong choice of words. Morgan’s outburst came after Lorenz’s reaction to the killing, when she posted an article criticizing another healthcare company for denying coverage of full anesthesia for surgeries, seemingly defending those who wish death upon insurance executives.

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down last week, with his suspected killer arrested and charged for the crime.
