Rep. Nancy Mace challenges rival to House floor confrontation

A fierce argument broke out during a House Oversight Committee meeting when Republican Rep. Nancy Mace challenged Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett to a fight. The confrontation was prompted by Crockett’s comments about Mace’s fixation on anti-trans messaging, with Mace taking offense to being referred to as a “child.” Mace, 47, shouted at Crockett, “I am no child! I am a grown woman, 47 years old. I have broken more glass ceilings, you will not do that. I am not a child. I am not a child. If you want to take it outside.” Committee Chairman James Comer struggled to regain order, but Mace continued to yell at Crockett. The altercation has sparked controversy, with Crockett labeling Mace as “an attention-seeking loser who has some fundraising goals to hit… and to be clear, that is the only thing that she will hit.”

In the aftermath, Mace took to social media to describe her actions, stating that she was not looking for a physical fight and that Crockett was trying to “act all high and mighty.” Mace also accused Crockett of wanting to “take away women’s rights” and being “scared of rape.” Crockett, meanwhile, shared her own account of the event, describing Mace as an “uneducated” politician who was triggered by her critique of Mace’s anti-trans messaging. Crockett also took to social media to express her outrage, stating, “SN: Republicans incite violence from the highest levels of government & claim to be the party of law & order, the two cannot be true! Do yourself a favor, decide to require better of your electeds.” The incident is the latest in a series of heated exchanges between the two representatives, with Mace having previously made headlines for attempting to ban a transgender person from using the Capitol Hill bathroom corresponding to their gender identity.
