Republican Congresswoman Missing for Six Months Found at Assisted Living Facility
Congresswoman Kay Granger, who has represented Texas’s 12th Congressional District since 1997, has been missing from public view for the past six months. According to a report by the Dallas Express, Granger disappeared after casting her final vote against an amendment to reduce the salary of Deputy Assistant Administrator for Pesticide Programs to $1 in July.
A curious reporter from the Dallas Express began investigating Granger’s whereabouts after her offices went to voicemail and her constituency office showed no signs of life or activity. A tip-off from a local resident led the reporter to an assisted living facility specializing in memory care, where he found that Granger had been residing for some time.
Two employees at the facility confirmed that Granger was indeed living there, but refused to permit an interview regarding her planned voting on the spending bill. The facility’s Assistant Executive Director, Taylor Manziel, acknowledged that “This is her home.”
It remains unclear why Granger’s relatives or staff declined to disclose her condition to the public. Some, including State Republican Executive Committeeman Rolando Garcia, have expressed displeasure at the situation, describing it as a “sad and humiliating way to end her political career.”
Granger had already announced her retirement at the end of this Congress, and from January, the seat will be held by Craig Goldman, a Republican who was formerly a member of the Texas House of Representatives.
