PA. Democratic Sen. John Fetterman has confirmed that he will meet with President-elect Trump ahead of his second inauguration on January 20. In an interview with Fox News, Fetterman stated, “I’ve been clear that no one is my gatekeeper. I will meet with and have a conversation with anyone if it helps me deliver for Pennsylvania and the nation.” A source familiar with the meeting said it will take place over the weekend at Mar-a-Lago.
Fetterman, who endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president in the 2024 election cycle, was one of the few Democrats who publicly acknowledged Trump’s strong support among voters, particularly in his home state of Pennsylvania. He has also recognized the “connection” between Trump and Pennsylvania voters, saying, “You can see the intensity” of their support.
Fetterman’s meeting with Trump will be the first known meeting between a sitting Democratic senator and the former president at Mar-a-Lago. His decision to meet with Trump is seen as a nod to his progressive stance on not letting party affiliation dictate his actions, with Fetterman stating, “I’m not just a gatekeeper for my party. I’m the senator for all Pennsylvanians – not just Democrats in Pennsylvania.”
