Jolt Cola to Return in 2025 with More Than Twice the Amount of Caffeine
Jolt Cola, the soda brand that gained a following in the 1980s for its high caffeine content, is set to return to stores in 2025 with an even bigger caffeine kick. The beverage, which was originally marketed as an alternative to Coca-Cola and Pepsi, will be rebooted by sports nutrition brand Redcon1 and will join the crowded energy-drink market.
Jolt Cola will come in 16-ounce cans and will be priced around $2.50 to $3. The drink will have 200 milligrams of caffeine, a significant increase from the 70 milligrams found in a 12-ounce can back in 1985. The brand will also offer a zero-sugar option, as well as added supplements.
The decision to relaunch Jolt Cola as an energy drink rather than a soda is due to the growing popularity of the energy-drink market, which has outpaced the soda market. Redcon1 believes that Jolt Cola can compete with energy drinks from major brands like Red Bull, Monster, and Celsius.
However, the energy-drink market has also faced criticism for its high sugar and caffeine content. The US Food and Drug Administration warns that consuming more than 400 milligrams of caffeine per day can be excessive for most adults. Redcon1 is positioning Jolt Cola as a nostalgic product that will appeal to older consumers looking for a retro taste, as well as young adults interested in trying a “throwback” product.
