Baltimore Ravens receiver Diontae Johnson was excused from practice this week, a result of his refusal to enter a game against Philadelphia on December 1. Johnson was previously suspended for last weekend’s win over the New York Giants. The team and Johnson “mutually agreed” for him to miss practice, but it’s unclear whether he will return to the team next week.
Coach John Harbaugh declined to comment on whether Johnson would be back with the team, stating only that “next week will take care of itself.” Harbaugh also dodged a question about why the team hasn’t released Johnson, citing “front office-type reasons.”
The Ravens need a win over Pittsburgh this weekend to keep their AFC North title hopes alive. The team acquired Johnson from the Carolina Panthers in an October trade, but he has caught only one pass in four games for the Ravens.
