Raiders owner Mark Davis laments Jon Gruden’s hasty resignation as a setback for the organization.

Mark Davis, the owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, reflects on the tumultuous tenure of former head coach Jon Gruden, who was forced to resign in 2021 after an email scandal. Davis credited Gruden’s 10-year contract with setting back the organization and praised the team’s new “infrastructure,” which includes Tom Brady as a minority owner. Davis expressed regret over not having someone on the football side to bring stability to the organization during Gruden’s tenure, saying that Brady’s addition fills that void.

Gruden resigned after leaked emails included racist, misogynistic, and homophobic remarks. Davis acknowledged that Gruden’s departure triggered a series of turnovers in the organization, which led to Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler leaving and Antonio Pierce being given the interim head coach role. The team ultimately decided to make a change, and Davis believes Brady’s involvement will have a lasting effect.

New head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek have been praised by Davis, who sees the team as building something special. Davis is willing to take his time to get it right, acknowledging that the process has been offset by Gruden’s departure. With Carroll as the team’s 14th head coach since 2002 and fifth since moving to Las Vegas in 2020, the Raiders are looking to turn a new page and move forward under new leadership.
